Lagos Police Arrest Suspected Traffic Robber, Recover N20 Million Worth of Stolen Goods in Swift Operation
Lagos, Nigeria – In a decisive crackdown on criminal activity within the metropolis, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected traffic robber and recovered stolen goods valued at over N20 million during a swift operation on the CMS-Marina Bridge.
The arrest took place following a distress call from commuters who were reportedly attacked by a group of robbers taking advantage of early morning traffic congestion on the bridge. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command launched an immediate operation, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene. A thorough search conducted at the time of arrest revealed a large cache of stolen items, including high-end smartphones, laptops, designer handbags, wristwatches, and other valuable electronics. The total value of the recovered items is estimated to exceed N20 million.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect is part of a larger syndicate that has been terrorizing motorists and pedestrians along the CMS-Marina axis during peak traffic hours. The suspect is currently in custody and providing critical information to assist in the apprehension of his accomplices.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, commended the prompt response and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation. He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the entire gang and enhance surveillance in hotspot areas across the state.
“We remain committed to protecting the lives and property of Lagosians. The success of this operation is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of our officers,” said CP Fayoade.
Members of the public are urged to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through emergency hotlines.
This development comes amid increased public concern over the rise in traffic-related crimes in Lagos. The state government and police authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying patrols and deploying additional security personnel to critical locations to ensure the safety of residents and commuters.
Further updates will be provided as investigations progress and more suspects are apprehended.
