The call for a nationwide vape ban is gaining momentum in the UK, as leading health professionals express growing concern over the impact of vaping on young people. In a recent interview with Sky News, Professor David Strain, Chair of the Board of Science at the British Medical Association (BMA), spoke strongly in favor of stricter regulations on vaping products.
“We are seeing a surge in vaping among teenagers, many of whom have never touched a cigarette before,” said Professor Strain. “This is no longer a harm-reduction strategy — it’s a harmful new trend.”
Professor Strain’s remarks come as government officials face increasing pressure to crack down on disposable vapes, flavored products, and youth-targeted marketing. The British Medical Association is calling for urgent legislation to align e-cigarette rules with those of traditional tobacco, warning that the long-term health effects of vaping remain unknown.
The live discussion on Sky News highlighted the divide in public opinion. While some support vaping as a safer alternative to smoking, many experts fear it’s becoming a gateway to nicotine addiction for the younger generation.
Countries like Australia and New Zealand have already taken action with strict vape control measures. The UK could be next.
