After a phone call between President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the United States has committed to “tightly coordinate” Ukraine negotiations with European allies, the German government said Monday.

The United States committed to “tightly coordinating” Ukraine negotiations with European allies after President Donald Trump’s phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the German government announced Monday.

Soon after Trump’s discussion with Putin, Trump placed a second call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and EU leader Ursula von der Leyen.

The call reading issued by Merz’s spokesman indicated that the leaders “spoke to one another about what comes next” and “reiterated their openness to closely following Ukraine on the way to a ceasefire.”.
